Cinema and Music - Silent Films and Live Music: The Traveling Film Festival "...Speechless!" Returns - - Varese News

Trumpet, double bass, synth, and an electric piano: modern instruments to accompany historical films. This is the formula of “…senza parole!” , the project born in 2007 and now in its fifth iteration, traveling through Italian-speaking Switzerland . Three evenings, three municipalities, three silent film masterpieces—all set to live music by the quartet composed of Nolan Quinn , Johannes von Ballestrem , Simon Quinn , and Brian Quinn .
A unique experience where image meets live sound, thanks to original soundtracks commissioned over the years by important cultural institutions such as Swiss Radio and Television , the Locarno Film Festival , the Swiss Alpine Club and numerous national museums and archives.
We start in Bellinzona with “Poil de carotte”The first screening is Monday, August 25th at 9:00 PM in Piazza G. Buffi in Bellinzona with "Poil de carotte" by Julien Duvivier (France, 1925 – 108 min). The film, based on a story by Jules Renard, recounts the difficult childhood of François, known as "Poil de carotte," who is ignored by his family but ultimately manages to rewrite their emotional bonds.
Admission is free. In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to Tuesday, August 26th , at the same time and location. The evening is organized in collaboration with the City of Bellinzona – Office of Culture and Events .
Bigorio hosts two Italian rarities with divas from times gone byThe festival continues on Wednesday 27 August at 9pm at the Casa Renata Gardens in Bigorio (Nucleo Bigorio 100), with two rare and fascinating Italian short films:

“Idolo Franto” by Emilio Ghione (Italy, 1913 – 22 min, tragicomic)

“The Model” by Ugo Falena (Italy, 1916 – 40 min, tragicomic)
Both tell the sentimental and artistic stories of painters and muses, with the participation of Francesca Bertini and Stacia Napierkowska , two of the first divas of European cinema.
Admission is free. In case of rain, a covered setting will be provided at the same location. The evening is a self-production by Q3. Imagines. Implements. Entertains.
In Morcote, a tribute to Hitchcock and his first masterpieceGrand finale on Thursday 28 August at 9pm at Spazio Garavello 7 in Morcote with “The Lodger” (Great Britain, 1927 – 101 min) by Alfred Hitchcock , his third silent feature film and his first major success.
On the occasion of the film's centenary and the 125th anniversary of the director's birth , the film-concert pays homage to one of the films that forever defined Hitchcock's style, playing on the theme of the persecuted innocent in a climate of growing tension.
Admission is free. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved to the Sala Maspoli in Morcote , at the same time. The event is organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Morcote and Visita Morcote .
